When I started this blog, I had a passing concern that I might, one day, have written about everything I love about Anchorage and be done. Granted, it hasn’t even been a year, but so far, there’s no end in sight. Maybe I’m just more open, but it seems like every day I find things to love that I want to share with you. Today for instance: I was idly browsing Facebook and ran across this link: Becky Kendall and the Light Brigade.
Becky is a fellow West High grad and the picture (above) is breathtaking, so of course I clicked and watched the video: Aerial Investigation. I am so so so in love with this idea: Celebrate the Fall Equinox (September 21, 2013) with urban aerial dance against the backdrop of the museum. How amazing is THAT?
Becky is a member of the Light Brigade, “a group of independent artists and designers who make time based, site specific performance work.” You can see other examples of their work (oh how I wish I’d been able to see these in person!) on their website’s Picture Lounge and Video Lounge.
To achieve this celebration, the Light Collective needs help with funding. If you donate, there are all sorts of perks, like getting tickets to the after party at the museum, or getting to be a member of the Light Brigade’s Commission. The funding will allow for Becky and other members of her Momentum Dance Collective to fly to San Francisco and learn how to aerial dance and purchase the necessary equipment.
As Becky says, “Anchorage needs art interventions like this because we’re going to make more interesting work when we’re collaborating with different types of artists to make different types of art. I think the most fulfilling part of creating these works is that we’re doing what we love and we’re putting all of our energy into something we’re proud of.”
Join me in supporting the Aerial Investigation – I can’t wait to see Becky and others dancing in the air!
“Forward the Light Brigade!… When can their glory fade? O the wild charge they made!” – pieces of Lord Alfred Tennyson’s poem, The Charge of the Light Brigade.
I forgot to mention, there’s a 1 to 1 match from the ever-awesome Rasmuson Foundation. Every dollar you donate raises another dollar for the project!
The project was fully funded! Mark your calendars for September 21, 2013!
