Second Run is having a sale, and it’s great! I fell in love with multiple home furnishings, including a pair of Tiffany style lamps, and art deco brass and glass coffee table, some oil landscapes, a little dog named Gizmo, and multiple gold framed mirrors. But this crazy dragon stole my heart. It used to grace a restaurant, but now it’s for sale at Second Run. I long for this dragon to come home with me – it would be so cool in a dim corner of a house, lurking to startle unsuspecting guests, or even better, paired with some sort of over the top, glitzy glam vanity/dressing room.

Perfect Peonies
A few years ago, I traveled to Seattle for a friend’s wedding, and had an awakening. I’d never paid much attention to peonies before, but that weekend, they were everywhere: beautifying the bridal bouquet (you can see them if you click the link and scroll through the photos), artfully arranged (so that they looked perfectly un-arranged) in a vase in the guest bathroom of the home where I was staying, and spilling over fences in neighborhood gardens around Green Lake. Suddenly, it seemed peonies were everywhere, in home decor, clothing, poems, and strangely enough, in Alaska.
Market Fresh
Every Wednesday morning, I drink a sip of coffee and click Anchorage Daily News‘ latest Market Fresh column by Steve Edwards. Steve and I used to be co-workers, so I’d get to quiz him about his column in person; now that I can’t loiter at his desk, reading Market Fresh is a weekly treat that makes me miss working with him – an incredibly talented, warm, and funny guy! He also writes the Alaskology blog.
I Love Your Style, Anchorage
Did you know that Anchorage was recently voted the worst dressed city IN THE COUNTRY?
Doggy Symphony
A few weeks ago, as I walked past the Linny Pacillo parking garage at the end of the day, I heard a bark. And then a yip.
Via Ninth Star: Alaska, The App
A bright new blog that I highly recommend is Ninth Star: Inspiration from the Last Frontier. I’m stealing some of Wanetta Ayer’s brilliance by posting this on my blog, but hopefully you’ll visit her page to check out this awesome post: Alaska, The App about Bob Kaufman.
Loussac Library: Your Library. Your Future.
It is an exciting time for Anchorage’s libraries. During the last few years, with significant help from library advocates, volunteers, service groups, the private sector, and city and state government, we’ve built new libraries in Girdwood and Mountain View, upgraded existing libraries in Eagle River and Muldoon, added a teen center in Loussac, and engaged the community in planning for Anchorage Public Library’s future.

Mystery Soup No More: Mulligatawny
I’ve written before, rather lovingly, of African Peanut Soup. I love it. It’s my favorite. The runner-up, however, also comes from Dianne’s Restaurant & Catering.

A good friend of mine is getting ready to vacation in Mexico. I have to say, I’m a bit envious of her as I look out my window to a mostly gray day and shiver. I’m more than ready for some hot sun in my life, or at least green grass and leaves on the trees! I long to wander down a street in Mexico, warm air on my skin, flip-flops on my feet, and music in the air.
