Isn’t this beautiful? It’s a gigantic chandelier at the Midnight Sun Brewing Co. I love it all on its own, but after looking more closely at this photo, it occurred to me that each of the circles that makes up the overall shape is an interpretation of the brewing co.’s logo. A subtle and fun way to carry branding into decor, plus I’m willing to bet that some super-talented local artist created the chandelier (and I would love to know who it was!) which makes it even cooler.

Detail: Rooftop Atlas
Have you noticed that building signs from the 60’s and 70’s seem WAY more interesting than they do today? I’m thinking about the Atlas on top of the Fur Factory building (a bit random; but still, visually interesting) and the Fourth Avenue Theater sign. I wish we could bring a bit of the old school flair back into our cityscapes.
What are the other cool signs in Anchorage?
Details: Feathery Flying Bohemians
I love when the Bohemian Waxwings come to town. They are mesmerizing as they swoop and swirl from tree to tree, filling the air with their chirping. And, I really love their name.

I visited Denver a few years ago and thought it was such a cool city. I loved walking through Lodo* (lower downtown) with lights twinkling above me, popping into an underground comedy club (where I saw one of the few comedians I actually thought was funny; I wish I remembered her name!), and sitting outside on restaurant patios sipping cold beverages and nibbling olives.
Little House, Lots of Lights!
Detail: Setting the Experience
I love these door handles. They are funky and fun, and the perfect way to set the experience of dining at Snow City Cafe, which is also funky and fun.
I might need utensils this big for Thanksgiving tomorrow. Looking forward to turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and mashed potatoes!

Detail: Sailing Through Downtown
It’s so easy sometimes to be focused on getting from here to there, or texting/checking email while walking. I try to remind myself to slow down just a little bit and enjoy the world around me. This ship sailing through downtown is a little surprise for your eyes when you happen to glance up. I love surprises like this!
Detail: Corsair Doorway
I am so in love with this doorway.
It looks solid yet glamorous, and I think the straight lines softened by curves, round lights, and the warmth of the wood is such an appealing combo.
Detail: Window at Crow Creek Mine
Isn’t this window beautiful?
I spotted it at Crow Creek Mine while celebrating the marriage of a dear friend.
