Yesterday when I posted the photo of the Atlas on top of the Fur Factory, I started imagining what some of my favorite Anchorage bloggers/writers would say about the photo.

Alaska-chic Qiviut and Shopping Local
Check out my AK-chic co-worker Jenn! She’s rocking a qiviut scarf made by an artist in Palmer, purchased at Sevigny Studio here in Anchorage. Not featured in this photo are her gorgeous forget-me-not Romney-painted Danskos. Yep, pretty much a classy, comfy, AK-artist-awesome outfit. And, knowing Jenn, I’m willing to bet that it’s all purchased locally.
Summer is Coming…
Summer is coming! Please note – this is not to be read in an ominous Game of Thrones “winter is coming” kind of way; read it in the same tone of voice a six-year-old would use to say “Christmas is tomorrow!”
Sled Dogs and a Ferris Wheel in Downtown Anchorage
Yesterday was a great day: foggy in the morning, sunny in the afternoon and evening. Warm enough to not freeze when walking around, cold enough that it didn’t get sloppy. Perfect for the last day of Fur Rondy!

Love Note: You’ve Got Mail
One of the best surprises is opening the mailbox and finding a letter or care package. It’s not the kind of love note I usually write about (since my focus is love notes to our city) but it’s the perfect way to tell someone they are special! A handwritten card filled with good thoughts, especially in this age of instant, electronic communication, brightens any day.
The Tale of the Golden Pen
Once upon a time, there was a volunteer cross-walk guard who guided Romig Jr. High students as they crossed Minnesota on the way to school. A student mentioned in passing that her 13th birthday was the next day.
Richard Florida: The Rise of the Creative Class
Last week Richard Florida, best-selling author/world-renowned urban theorist/”intellectual rock star” visited Anchorage to give the keynote speech at Anchorage Economic Development Corporation’s 2013 Anchorage Economic Forecast luncheon.

AEDC Anchorage 2013 Economic Forecast: We’re Still Doing Well
The AEDC 2013 Economic Forecast for Anchorage was today, and they did a great job, as usual. In addition to the forecast, they also provided a Live.Work.Play. update and brought Richard Florida, author of Rise of the Creative Class, to Anchorage. Today, I’m focusing on the forecast.

Neighborhood Book Box
Such a cute little neighborhood library! I love that someone is doing this in Anchorage: take a book out, leave a book behind. I’m not sure long this book box has been here, but when I drove by it the other day, it made my day. I didn’t have a book handy to donate, but plan on going back soon!
Fourth Avenue Theater History and Dreams
I love the Fourth Avenue Theater. It’s so art deco retro, and I have many memories of good times spent there. I used to wish that I was the lucky person who got to live in the penthouse apartment, or at least that I could see it someday. I can’t actually remember seeing a movie at the theater – my memories are of dinner events, performances, and proms. However, I’ve heard that the balcony was the place to be back when the theater was used for films!
