One of my favorite local legends is that of Linny Pacillo. Linny and her sister, Susan, were Anchorage’s parking fairies in the 1990’s.  They would dress in tights and tutus, feed parking meters that were out of time, and save countless Achoragites from tickets while protesting the overly strict parking authority. Parking fairies to the rescue!

Something’s Sizzlin’ in Downtown Anchorage

A couple days ago, my friend Ryann and I got together for lunch at the Sizzlin’ Cafe – brand new to me, an old favorite for her. I can’t believe that not only had I never been there, I’d never even heard of it – I’ve been missing out for the last seven years! The café is on 3rd Avenue, just a couple of doors down from the Woodshed, across the street from the Hilton.

Another Great Kickstarter Project – PopCycle: Keeping Alaska Cool

I’m loving crowd-sourced funding opportunities recently – it gives me the chance to support really cool projects in Anchorage that might not be possible without multiple people pitching in to help out.  I’m super exited about Kesey Pollock’s Melting Bodies, Clark Mischler’s Portrait Alaska, and the Momentum Collective’s Aerial Investigation.

And now, there’s a new project to love: Kait Reiley’s PopCycle: Keeping Alaska Cool.

Not featured in this photo are her gorgeous forget-me-not Romney-painted Danskos. Yep, pretty much a classy, comfy, AK-artist-awesome outfit.
