Tonight was my first visit to Anchorage Community Works. I was a super fan back in May 2013 during the Kickstarter campaign, but somehow timing just never worked out for me to visit. But, tonight was “Emergence,” the first annual fundraiser and art auction. A friend invited us, so off we went for an art-filled evening of fun!

Ship Creek Boat Launch
Drive across the railroad tracks and wind your way through towers of colorful shipping containers. At the end of the road you’ll find the the Ship Creek small boat launch.
Love Note: Colorful Graffiti
I don’t always love graffiti – in fact, there are plenty of times that it just doesn’t belong. But this lookout shack (if that’s what it is!) down by the Ship Creek boat launch sits all alone, and the graffiti side looks out at the ocean. I can see how it’s the perfect canvas.
Fat Ptarmigan Ice Cream Shop
I just discovered that Fat Ptarmigan added an ice cream counter to their already fantastic combo of wood-fired pizza and espresso (not to mention the best caprese and canolis in town!).
Locomotive 556, Anchorage’s Gypsy Rose
How many Anchorage residents have memories of Locomotive 556?

Loving Madison
I recently visited Madison, WI and although I feel like I barely explored it, there was a lot to love!

Love Note: Bernie’s Bungalow Patio
The grass is still yellow, the sunshine a bit watery and cold, and no leaves have emerged yet… but the patio at Bernie’s Bungalow is open! One of Anchorage’s best outdoor spaces for an after work aperitif, it features lion sculptures, a dragon water fountain, and an archway made out of what might be bumpers… a bit random, sure, but when the sun is shining, live music is rocking, and it’s summertime in Alaska, Bernie’s is a great place to be. Plus, they have a generous supply of heat lamps just in case it gets chilly…
