Ingredients for a great weekend: Road trip to Talkeenta, a pie making class at the Roadhouse, live music, craft brews, and most of all, good friends.

Love Note: Chandeliers @ Killjoy
Speaking of ornamentation: Check out the dazzling chandeliers decorating the new Killjoy Tasting Room (more on them soon!). They make quite the bling-ey impact against the all black industrial ceiling and bring a feeling of opulent glam to the space. Love seeing all the different decor and design choices in Anchorage’s newly opened dining establishments and watering holes…
For the Love of Ska (Nervis Rex Rocks!)
One night a few years ago, my husband and I wandered into the Tap Root and encountered the Nervis Rex (Anchorage’s ska band of 18 years), for the first time. People flooded the dance floor, smiles were everywhere, and the energy in the room was running high. It was AWESOME, and now we try to make it to their shows when we can. Lucky for us, it’s “Ska Saturday” at Humpy’s Great Alaskan Alehouse every Saturday this month through the first Saturday in March.
Loving Juneau
Like many people traveling (or trying to travel) to/from Juneau during the last couple weeks, I got fogged in. By the time I knew that my flight home was cancelled, there were no flights available the next day, giving me a mini-vacay in Alaska’s capitol city. I have to admit, I was pretty excited about the chance to explore!
Mammoth Music, A Cluster?! and Ramblings…

Fat Ptarmigan
There’s another new restaurant downtown, and it already feels like an old favorite. Fat Ptarmigan is here to stay.
Drinking Hot Chocolate on a Cold Day
My mom and I stopped by Modern Dwellers Chocolate Lounge the other day – don’t you think the cold, cold weather is the perfect reason to treat yourself to hot chocolate? And Modern Dwellers is a great place to get it!
Epicurean Alaska
Look what I found at Metro Cooks: An epicurean cutting board in the shape of Alaska!
Loving Hawaii
My husband and I recently returned from a long-delayed honeymoon in Hawaii. We were both in need of some R & R, and I’m happy to say that we found it!
Loving Sitka
Shortly after my trip to New Hampshire (shortly as in about 12 hours) I visited Sitka, Alaska for the first time. I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect – other than the Sitka Summer Music Festival and the Sheldon Jackson Fine Arts Camp I didn’t really know much about Sitka at all.
