Isn’t this beautiful? It’s a gigantic chandelier at the Midnight Sun Brewing Co. I love it all on its own, but after looking more closely at this photo, it occurred to me that each of the circles that makes up the overall shape is an interpretation of the brewing co.’s logo. A subtle and fun way to carry branding into decor, plus I’m willing to bet that some super-talented local artist created the chandelier (and I would love to know who it was!) which makes it even cooler.

The Muffin Man, the Muffin Man, the Muffin Man…
I met a friend the other day at the Muffin Man/Cafe 817. We arrived at 9:00, just as the owner was unlocking the door. We ordered coffee and chai, and waited for fresh muffins, piping hot from the oven and oh so very good. I wish this café was open on the weekends, but it’s weekdays only.

“Hard Hat Tour” – Covenant House’s New Home
Do you remember how a few months ago I was hoping to go on a hard hat tour of a cool new project? Well, today I got my chance! Covenant House opened the doors to their new home (obviously still under construction as shown in the above photo) for downtown-ers and I got to poke around and ooo and ahh* to my heart’s content!

Detail: Alley Art
I visited Denver a few years ago and thought it was such a cool city. I loved walking through Lodo* (lower downtown) with lights twinkling above me, popping into an underground comedy club (where I saw one of the few comedians I actually thought was funny; I wish I remembered her name!), and sitting outside on restaurant patios sipping cold beverages and nibbling olives.
Visiting the Vet
Grover LOVES going to the vet. This is strange to me – growing up, our dogs were decidedly NOT pro-vet. But Grover trots in, explores excitedly, makes new friends (like these three cuties from our last visit!), stares at cats (he’s still not sure what to make of them), soaks up love from the staff, and then stares at Dr. Pala, his favorite vet, like she’s the most amazing thing he’s ever seen (smelled?).
Perfection @ Grape Expectations
The best thing about Grape Expectations (a downtown bottle shop) isn’t its carefully curated selections of wines, wide array of Alaskan brews, or convenient location. The best thing about Grape Expectations is Terri, the owner.
Unicorn Bowls and that Special Something at Middleway Cafe
You know that saying, “You can have something fast, cheap, or good. Pick two?” In the restaurant world, I think it’s more like, “Fast, healthy, or tasty. Pick two.” But Middleway Cafe is one of those rare places where you can have all three (the fast part might be debatable, but if you call ahead you’re golden!).

Fourth Avenue Theater History and Dreams
I love the Fourth Avenue Theater. It’s so art deco retro, and I have many memories of good times spent there. I used to wish that I was the lucky person who got to live in the penthouse apartment, or at least that I could see it someday. I can’t actually remember seeing a movie at the theater – my memories are of dinner events, performances, and proms. However, I’ve heard that the balcony was the place to be back when the theater was used for films!
