One of my favorite artists, Gretchen Sagan, had a show for May’s First Friday at APU’s Grant Hall. I missed it then (the blessing and the curse of First Friday is that there is SO much to see and do!) but fortunately it’s up until the end of the month. Today, a friend and I decided to take a lunchtime field trip to check it out.

DJ and I stopped by Snow City Cafe for brunch last weekend (hooray for reservations! We only waited five minutes) and not only did we bump into all sorts of fun friends, we also met these lovelies by Believe Magic.
Doesn’t this stage look great? I love the bright pink background, and when you look across the theater at the empty microphones awaiting the performance, it’s a moment full of anticipation. Anything could happen!
I recently spent a couple of days with some of the makers and shapers of Alaska’s arts. It was invigorating to meet such a diverse and thoughtful group of people. As someone who wholeheartedly appreciates the arts, I loved the experience.
I love this piece of art, called “Constellation” – It spans multiple stories (65 feet tall) and is visible from all the main lobbies of the Dena’ina. It’s spectacular. Unfortunately, none of my photos do it justice. Here’s a link to a more talented photographers work: Constellation.
A year and a half ago, I married my sweetheart and best buddy. A friend of ours, John, learned U2’s “All I want is you” for the occasion, but didn’t end up performing.
I visited Loussac Library this evening, and spend a bit of time checking out a fascinating photography and oral history exhibit, “When Crab was King: Faces of the Kodiak King Crab Fishery 1950 – 1982.”
