It’s Lemonade Day in Alaska! I stopped by the Rainbow Lemon Tree stand outside Skinny Raven to support some of Alaska’s youngest entrepreneurs (and also to indulge my love of lemon flavored anything).

Artrepreneurs and Arts Education
I’ve been thinking a lot about arts in Anchorage, and Alaska. This post is a bit of a ramble, but if you read it, I’d love to hear what you think!
BLING! And the Alaska Design Forum
Internationally renowned designers, artists, and architects sharing their perspective in Alaska? Absolutely YES, courtesy of the Alaska Design Forum.
For the Love of Ska (Nervis Rex Rocks!)
One night a few years ago, my husband and I wandered into the Tap Root and encountered the Nervis Rex (Anchorage’s ska band of 18 years), for the first time. People flooded the dance floor, smiles were everywhere, and the energy in the room was running high. It was AWESOME, and now we try to make it to their shows when we can. Lucky for us, it’s “Ska Saturday” at Humpy’s Great Alaskan Alehouse every Saturday this month through the first Saturday in March.
Loving Juneau
Like many people traveling (or trying to travel) to/from Juneau during the last couple weeks, I got fogged in. By the time I knew that my flight home was cancelled, there were no flights available the next day, giving me a mini-vacay in Alaska’s capitol city. I have to admit, I was pretty excited about the chance to explore!
Beautiful Beautiful Bloomsbury Blooms
I’m still reveling in winter (even though yesterday was the “first day of winter” we’ve had weeks of snow and chilly temps) and wasn’t missing summery things until I wandered into Bloomsbury Blooms, where color, flowers, greens, art, and the intoxicatingly fresh smell of growing things riot together in an abundance of perfection.
It’s a Hairy Man!
Look who I found – an Alaska Hairy Man! Doesn’t he look an awful lot like the abominable snowman in Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer?
Gorgeous Gayla
When I visited the Blue Hollomon gallery a couple of months ago, I was drawn to the work of one artist in particular: Gayla Ranf.
Love Note: Lunch Boxes (P + P)
Just a little peek at one of the lunch boxes featured at Pupil + Paper – they were all fantastic, but the color and size of this one really stood out! Check the P + P FB page for more photos…
Pottery and Paintings and Jewelry, Oh My!
Today is Small Business Saturday (shop small!) and the second day of the Anchorage museum’s Crafts Weekend and the Read Alaska Book Fair. It’s a wonderful place to shop for gifts – there are so many wonderful creations, and the best part is getting to chat with the people who made them.
If you miss the museum show, you can find three of my favorite local artists showing their work together at Toni Maury’s studio (2527 Susitna Drive).
