One of my favorite artists, Gretchen Sagan, had a show for May’s First Friday at APU’s Grant Hall. I missed it then (the blessing and the curse of First Friday is that there is SO much to see and do!) but fortunately it’s up until the end of the month. Today, a friend and I decided to take a lunchtime field trip to check it out.

Believe Magic
DJ and I stopped by Snow City Cafe for brunch last weekend (hooray for reservations! We only waited five minutes) and not only did we bump into all sorts of fun friends, we also met these lovelies by Believe Magic.
My Danskos are Dead…Long Live my Danskos!
I wore my Danskos until my feet started getting wet from the soles up. It was hard for me to let them go (as you can see, I probably should have tossed them months, maybe years, ago), but I’ve hung on to them since college and parting with them felt like something more momentous than simply tossing some broken-down shoes in a dumpster. But they were starting to stink, so to the trash they went. And now I get to pick out a new pair!

The Stage is Set
Doesn’t this stage look great? I love the bright pink background, and when you look across the theater at the empty microphones awaiting the performance, it’s a moment full of anticipation. Anything could happen!
Great Alaska Seafood Cook-off
Last night was the 2nd Annual Great Alaska Seafood Cook-off and it was SO COOL. Six of Alaska’s best chefs competed to represent our state at the Great American Seafood Cook-off in New Orleans, August 2013.
L’Affaire SteamDot
My love for Kaladi Brothers coffee has been well documented (here, here, and here).
But on Saturday, I cheated. I wandered into the shiny new SteamDot coffee shop in the Sears mall and ordered an Americano (my new drink of choice esp. with honey and a dash of cream, mmmm).
Talking Art
I recently spent a couple of days with some of the makers and shapers of Alaska’s arts. It was invigorating to meet such a diverse and thoughtful group of people. As someone who wholeheartedly appreciates the arts, I loved the experience.
Constellation at the Dena’ina
I love this piece of art, called “Constellation” – It spans multiple stories (65 feet tall) and is visible from all the main lobbies of the Dena’ina. It’s spectacular. Unfortunately, none of my photos do it justice. Here’s a link to a more talented photographers work: Constellation.
Something’s Sizzlin’ in Downtown Anchorage
A couple days ago, my friend Ryann and I got together for lunch at the Sizzlin’ Cafe – brand new to me, an old favorite for her. I can’t believe that not only had I never been there, I’d never even heard of it – I’ve been missing out for the last seven years! The café is on 3rd Avenue, just a couple of doors down from the Woodshed, across the street from the Hilton.

83 Down, 17 to go: 100 Days of Downtown Dining
Anchorage, you have 17 days left to complete the Anchorage Downtown Partnership’s (ADP) 100 Days of Downtown Dining. As you can see, I’m well on my way to filling up my card!
