Thanks Dark Horse!
I recently visited Madison, WI and although I feel like I barely explored it, there was a lot to love!
Just when I think I can’t love Second Run more than I already do, they go and do something super cool like make hanging burlap gardens for the side of their building.
So pretty!
By now, I’d guess that all of Anchorage knows about the Alaska Dispatch purchase of the Anchorage Daily News. I think the sale is final today, and although I’m cautiously optimistic for the future (I’ve attended a couple presentations by Alice Rogoff, the new owner, and appreciate her vision for the future of press in Alaska – so far the only change seems to be duplicate content between the two online sites; it will be interesting to watch the evolution) I really hope some of my favorites from the ADN survive.

The grass is still yellow, the sunshine a bit watery and cold, and no leaves have emerged yet… but the patio at Bernie’s Bungalow is open! One of Anchorage’s best outdoor spaces for an after work aperitif, it features lion sculptures, a dragon water fountain, and an archway made out of what might be bumpers… a bit random, sure, but when the sun is shining, live music is rocking, and it’s summertime in Alaska, Bernie’s is a great place to be. Plus, they have a generous supply of heat lamps just in case it gets chilly…
A friend posted a link on Facebook to this “Weird and Wonderful Anchorage, Alaska” map by Agnes Barton-Sabo the other day – isn’t it fun? Check out the full map here – lots of local favorites are featured!

Housing is a HOT topic in Anchorage – it’s in the news, the focus of Chamber of Commerce/Rotary/AEDC/etc. presentations, and the subject of countless blog posts and conversations.
Today marks the close of the second year of GretchenLovesAnchorage, and I’m still so glad I finally had the guts to click “publish” for the first time back in 2012.
