To the girl hula hooping outside the Atwood Building today: I loved your carefree attitude, complete lack of self-consciousness, and mad hoop dance skills. Thank you for bringing a bit of unexpected delight to my day!
Thank You, APU
There’s lots to love about Anchorage’s Alaska Pacific University. And yes, Jimmy Fallon’s “Thank You Notes” music by The Roots played in my head while writing this…
Stories around town: Solstice and more!
The solstice is upon us! I snapped the not-particularly-well-done selfie sometime around 10:00 PM Wednesday night, and look at that sunshine! Tonight, the sun won’t set tonight until 11:45. Here are some great stories from the week, starting with ways to celebrate the solstice.
Detail: McGinley’s Pub Facade
I find something about the entrance to McGinley’s Pub so charming. Maybe it’s the shrubs in the pretty pots, or the kegs stacked outside, or the strand of lights. Or maybe the way the colors complement the warm wood. Whatever it is, it works.

Detail: Disco Ball
Love the disco ball at Sub Zero! I never noticed it until a friend pointed it out (seriously, how could I have not noticed this sparkly amazingness?). My husband and I joke about putting one in our living room to make Grover go crazy (he loves chasing light, especially when listening to Macklemore. Random, I know.) and I love this bedroom redesign/redecorate featuring a disco ball: Celebratory Decay. He vetoed the antler chandelier I found on Craigslist, but maybe he’ll go for some serious shine?
Crush Cellar Surprise
I’ve loved Crush Wine Bistro and Cellar since it opened. And why wouldn’t I? There’s so much to love – great food and wine, fantastic service, excellent ambiance… I thought I knew everything there was to know about Crush. But I didn’t…
Stories Around Town: WHS Represents in the News
I’ve written before about how much I love learning about the amazing things people I remember from high school are doing in our community. This week, I thought I’d post an old HS photo to celebrate three fellow West High grads in the news – Miriam, Liza, and Becky, you are awesome!
