Sweet sweet summertime. Lazy picnics in the park, splashing in Jewel Lake, and FLOWER CROWNS.
Last weekend, I encountered something delightfully unexpected – a-local-as-you-can-get florist’s pop-up shop in Alaska’s only department store: Bloomsbury Blooms on the second floor of Nordstrom.
Startling, right? And yet, it totally worked!
You know those people who give so much of themselves — time, money, energy, passion — to our community? The ones who are organizing, fundraising, rallying, volunteering, always doing SOMETHING to make our world a little better?

Have you been following the Ch. 2 Road Trippin’ team? They’re basically living my dream of roving the state, living it up as they discover tales of Alaskan history and adventure. If you’re not, you should be — who doesn’t love a good road trip?
Last week was my first visit to Alaska’s first city: Ketchikan. Like the other Southeast Alaska towns I’ve visited (and loved!) it offers the ocean on one side and mountains on the other – the best of both worlds! It was 60 degrees and sunny while I was there, and I didn’t touch my rubber boots or raincoat once; apparently, this is not normal.
